In this Thursday addition of Vogel’s Small School series, I’m highlighting an athletic freak who I wouldn’t be surprised to see on Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List this fall.

Drake EDGE Finn Claypool pops on tape immediately as an athletic pass rusher. Last year, he collected 19 TFL and 12.5 sacks as a redshirt sophomore.

Some of the things that stood out to me:

• Easy movement ability and excellent speed.
• Flashes some very solid body control.
• 20.5 sacks over first two seasons as a starter.
• 5 forced fumbles in 2023.

While there are some shortcomings (lack of bulk/size, strength), Drake has a young man who, with another standout season, could easily find himself a pass rush specialist role on a defense that will use his energy, athleticism, and motor to send after the quarterback.
