Jalen Milroe has composed some of the most interesting game film in the 2025 NFL Draft class. He’s one of the most inconsistent players I’ve ever seen, but with some of the brightest flashes of brilliance.

In 2023, he was benched after a loss to Texas, but quickly regained his role and led Alabama to an SEC Championship win. He returned for the debut of the Kalen DeBoar coaching staff at Alabama in 2024 with massive expectations. To say he fell short may be an understatement.

Jalen Milroe started for two years at Alabama. He was a productive runner and scorer during this time. He threw for 2800 yards in both of his seasons as a starter. He was responsible for 71 touchdowns over the last two years (39 passing, 32 rushing).

The quarterback coaching at Alabama hadn’t been like it was under Nick Saban. His staffs developed NFL starters like Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts, and Bryce Young. From the outside looking in, the DeBoar staff set their sights on making Milroe like Michael Penix had played for DeBoar in 2023 at Washington. That type of game isn’t Milroe’s strength.

He’s one of the most naturally gifted athletes I’ve ever seen. He has a cannon for an arm. The tools are there to become a very serious threat to any defense. Still, the inconsistency in the passing game prevents him from taking that next step right now as a pro prospect. He will need a confident and patient staff in the NFL. The team should help him develop. Additionally, an ownership group must be willing to commit to making a drastic change to their offensive scheme.

Pros:

• Great arm strength, can push the ball effectively right around 60 yards.
• Electric athlete outside of the pocket. Throws on the move very effectively.
• Elite-level athlete as a runner. Gashes defense with both speed and power. Excellent field vision.
• Flashes ridiculous improvability. Shows the ability to threaten all levels of the field as an improviser.
• Excellent leader, led the Alabama locker room consistently.

Cons:

• Doesn’t display much of a touch ball ability.
• Release right now is extended and takes him a little bit to get through.
• Erratic accuracy. Struggles with placement tremendously.
• Doesn’t have as much poise trying to throw through pressure. Tends to fade to his back foot.
• Base platform and footwork as a passer need a lot of refining.
• Not a guy who will extend plays to keep the base play alive.
• Has not developed well reading and diagnosing pre-snap.
